      4. Le Wagon Workshop - Web-components design in CSS

This workshop is a perfect follow up to November 16's "Build your landing page from scratch".

If you didn't attend it but already have some knowledge of HTML, CSS and have briefly played with Bootstrap, then this workshop will be great fun.

DISCLAIMER: you should have some basic HTML/CSS knowledge to come. In this workshop, you will learn to code navbars, buttons, cards, dropdown-lists, banners, badges, etc… and other UI components that you retrieve in most web apps. To do that, we will cover lots of cool CSS techniques and patterns by reproducing components from existing websites (Product Hunt or Medium). Positioning techniques, flexbox, transitions, filters, etc.. you'll learn a lot of crazy CSS stuff, we promise!

      5. Design Lab: Learning Programming Through The Power Of Design

Design Lab London is a community of designers that get together to talk shop, share ideas and designs, and get to know one another.

Talk 1: Learning programming through the power of design and data: a case study at Kingston University

The traditional method of teaching in higher education doesn’t work for practical subjects such as programming, students need to be actively doing things in order to absorb the materials effectively. NoobLab – an e-learning platform – was built by one of the lecturers at Kingston University to help bring in practical exercises to aid his lectures.

Jenney and Regina will talk about how they a.) evaluated and redesigned the platform to improve its UX and insert a metacognitive makeover; and b.) created a data visualization dashboard using learning analytics to help support the students in their learning and measure their progress.
The ultimate goal of this project is to increase the students’ motivation in not only learning programming, but also develop learning strategies for other courses within university.

Jenney is a UX designer with a passion for healthcare and education. Prior to UX, she also has experience working as a graphic designer, with focus on brand identity.
